« Bulles de verre... »

Une enveloppe de verre,
comme un écrin, un vide d’air
indispensable pour que la
lumière existe. La rencontre
entre un éclairagiste de théâtre
et les souffleurs de verre de
Murano afin de réinterroger la
force poétique de la lampe à
filament incandescent
Light designer for theater and opera for 25 years, Philippe Berthomé is currently developing a new line of research on light.
The electric lamp is at the center of this work. These objects commonly called "light bulbs" have always fascinated him, he accumulates them, analyzes them, sublimates them, until they divert them from their function, he uses in almost all the shows he lights up.
2014 winner of the Institut Français "Villa Medicis Hors les Murs" program, Philippe Berthomé completed a three-month residency in Venice, meeting glassblowers with the aim of creating his own light bulbs.
This meeting with the master glassmakers of Murano was formidable and very fruitful.
Together, they made different models exploring the various techniques. With them, he acquired the basics of hot glass working, in order to be able in turn to blow simple models.
