Biography
Philippe Berthomé studied at the «Ecole Superieur d’Art Dramatique du Théâtre National de Strasbourg». He has lit vole mon dragon by Hervé Guibert directed by Stanislas Nordey presented at the Festival d'Avignon 1994.
This collaboration with Stanislas Nordey carries on with few theatre production, Pasolini’s Porcherie in 1999, Feydeau’s La puce à l’oreille and Hofmannsthal’s Electre at the Theatre National de la Colline in 2003 and 2007, Das system and My secret garden by Falk richter at the Festival d’Avignon 2008 and 2010. Recently he has lit Se Trouver Pirandello with Emmanuelle Béart Tristesse Animal Noir and Affabulation at the National Theatre of la colline in paris
Philippe Berthomé has lit production for Eric Lacascade, Chekhov’s Platonov in la cour d’honneur of the Festival d’Avignon 2002, Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler with Isabelle Huppert at Théâtre National de l’Odéon in 2005 and Gorky’s barbarians at the antic theatre Herodes Atticus of Athènes in 2006 and Oncle Vania at Théâtre de la Ville Paris
He has lit production for Jean-François Sivadier including Beaumarchais’s Le Mariage de Figaro in 2000, Brecht’s La vie de Galilée in 2002, Shakespeare’s King Lear at the Festival d’Avignon 2007 , The Lady from Maxim, noli me tangere, Misanthrope and Dom Juan at the National Theatre of Odéon.
Recently, he has lit the last testament from James Frey directed by Mélanie Laurent at the National Theatre of Chaillot, Récit d'un homme inconnu from Tchekhov directed by Anatoli Vassiliev at the National Theatre of Strasbourg and Thyeste from Sénèque at The Cour d'honneur of Palais des Papes in 2018.
Philippe Berthomé has lit opera production too.
For Stanislas Nordey he did namely, Shoenberg’s Pierrot lunaire and Stravinsky’s Rossignol conducted by Pierre Boulez (Théâtre du Châtelet 1997), Peter Eötvös’s Tri Sestri (Staatsoper Hamburg 1999), Honegger’s Jeanne au bûcher (Ruhr Triennale 2003) , Olivier Messian’s Saint François d’Assise (Opéra Bastille 2004), Debussy’s Pelleas and Melisanda (Covent Garden 2007), Georg Freidrich Haas’s Mélancholia (Palais Garnier 2008) and recently Marc André Dalbavie, Le Soulier de satin, (Palais Garnier).
For Jean-François Sivadier, he has lit in Opera de lille, Puccini’s Madame Butterfly in 2004, Berg’s Wozzeck in 2007, Mozart’s Les Noces de Figaro in 2008, Bizet's Carmen in 2010, Traviata at Festival D'Aix in 2011, Le Barbier de Seville and lately Don Giovanni at Archevêché of Festival D'Aix in 2017.
He has lit also, Hansel and Gretel directed by Mariame Clément at the Palais Garnier in 2013 and 2014.
Recently, he has let also few production with Marie-Eve Signeyrole like "The Monster of th maze" at Aix lyric Festival and Sex'y at the Opéra de Paris Bastille.
Philippe has lit too, the tours of Jane Birkin "enfants d'hiver" and "Jane via Japan", "CIELS" from Wajdi Mouavad at the festival d'Avignon and the Maritim Festival of Douarnenez 2010 and 2012, the Cathedral of Anger in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
In 2016, in collaboration with the architect Patrick Bouchain, he has lit the kitchen and restaurant 3 stars of the new Troisgros house.
In 2014 He is lauréat of Villa Medicis Hors les murs, he made a artistic residence in Venice to meet glass master of Murano to design and blow his own Light bulbs.
